Exhibiting Until: July 6th 2025
Venue: Art:1 New Museum
Blue Ocean Exhibition is a heartfelt initiative by the Art1 Community Program (ACP), presented in celebration of World Ocean Day. Now in its sixth edition, this special program reflects our continued commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and deeper public engagement within the museum space.
ACP is an initiative by Art:1 New Museum designed to break down the barriers between the institution and the public. It invites emerging artists and creative individuals from all backgrounds to actively participate in shaping the museum—not merely as visitors, but as contributors. Through this platform, ACP also connects artists whose work centers around specific issues, like environmental conservation, with companies and organizations that share those concerns—bringing the artwork beyond gallery walls and into the heart of public life.
This year’s Blue Ocean Exhibition embodies the spirit of connection and shared care for our natural world. It begins with a curated selection of international photography from members of various water sports communities. These individuals—often seen as adventurers and athletes—step into the role of artists, sharing their personal, visual stories of the ocean. The exhibition concludes with a recognition of excellence through two award categories, as a gesture of appreciation from ACP for the exceptional works presented.
At the core of this exhibition are three artists whose practices are deeply rooted in ocean conservation. Desy Febrianti presents Kindred Spirit, an immersive room installation that was created in collaboration with ACP, PODSI DKI, KDB Community, and Pandu Laut Nusantara. Using natural fibers and community-driven processes, her work reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and care. Robby Mulyanto showcases Makna Segara, a striking series of resin-based works that draw inspiration from the experiences of water sports communities, offering a poetic tribute to their relationship with the sea. Meanwhile, Hitomi Miyashita contributes Boat in Memory, an interactive piece designed for young audiences, inviting children to explore the ocean’s stories through playful engagement and imagination.
In the spirit of World Ocean Day, ACP is also proud to host *Ocean Talks*—a one-day forum that brings together water sports communities from across Jakarta and local non-profit organizations. This gathering aims to spark open dialogue about our shared love for the ocean, and to encourage ongoing collaboration in preserving it.
